OTC Elite — High-Performance Running Coaching in Perth

OTC Elite is the high-performance program of Ogging Track Club, built for runners in Perth competing at the top end of the sport. This is elite running coaching for athletes targeting podium results at state and national championships and selection for international competition — not general fitness or participation. Training is individually programmed around your championship calendar, backed by coached elite sessions in a small, high-standard squad, and led directly by an Athletics Australia certified coach. Places are limited and entry is by enquiry only.

Purpose. Ogging Track Club is open to all runners and caters for all abilities. Ogging Elite is the performance arm of Ogging Track Club, designed for athletes committed to consistent training, regular attendance, racing, team culture, and long-term athletic development.

The aim is to create a high-performance environment where athletes can push each other, develop as runners, and represent Ogging at a higher level.

Key squad sessions

The sessions that anchor the Elite week. Athletes don't need to attend every session every week — the guide is at least two key sessions per week where possible.

Tuesday 5:30pmHard

Threshold

Location rotating

Sustained work at your lactate threshold — the single most productive session in an endurance runner's week. Controlled, precise, and built to raise the pace you can hold before fatigue takes over.

  • Threshold repeats and cruise intervals at prescribed effort
  • Coach-led pacing — every rep run to a target, not a feeling
Thursday 4:30pmVery Hard

VO2

WA Athletics Stadium

The elite crew trains at 4:30pm, before the main club session. Track intervals run to splits — because championship racing is decided at this end of the range.

  • Track intervals at 3–5km race effort
  • Progression tracked session to session
Sunday 7:00amModerate

Long

Location rotating

The week's anchor session. Aerobic endurance, race-specific strength, and the durability that holds up over a championship distance. Distance prescribed individually.

  • Distance prescribed by your coach
  • Rotating terrain — trails, coastal paths, road

Perth based athletes. Elite crew runs Thursday at 4:30pm, before the main club session.

Luke Burrows

Head Running Coach

Luke still races at the sharp end, and the program reflects it. Every session is written with intent — threshold, VO2, long — sequenced across the season, not thrown together week to week. If you're chasing a PB, a qualifier, or a start line that scares you, this is the environment built for it.

Senior Running Coach

Sav coaches from inside the sport, not the sideline. She races the distances she programs, and it shows in the detail — precise effort zones, honest feedback, and sessions that hold you to the standard you say you want. No passengers, no guesswork.

OTC Elite is led by Luke Burrows — an elite runner and Athletics Australia certified coach. Luke coaches the program directly: every session, every program, every race plan comes from him.

He's building the elite side of the Ogging Track Club deliberately and slowly — which means the athletes who join now train in a genuinely small group and help set the standard the squad is built on.

Athletes who are close to these marks may still be considered through development selection.

Development selection

Athletes who are close to the time standards may still be considered for Ogging Elite if they show strong commitment, consistency, and clear potential.

  • Are within approximately 2–5% of the standards
  • Attend sessions consistently
  • Are improving rapidly
  • Show strong training habits
  • Add positively to the squad culture
  • Are targeting the required standards in upcoming races

Selection is ultimately at the discretion of the Ogging coaching team.

What Ogging Elite entitles athletes to

Ogging Elite is designed to create more than just a faster training group. It should provide a genuine performance pathway with access to greater support, exposure, and racing opportunities. Support is not automatic or guaranteed; it depends on commitment, performance, attitude, availability, and the level of support available at the time.

  • Ogging Elite racing singlet
  • Ogging Elite training tee
  • BIX Hydration support and supplements
  • Sponsorship opportunities through Ogging partners
  • Train with the elite crew at 4:30pm for Thursday's track session
  • Race promotion and athlete exposure through OggingSquad
  • Potential funding assistance for selected race events
  • Interstate race opportunities where appropriate
  • Overseas racing opportunities where appropriate
  • Altitude training camp opportunities
  • Access to a higher-performance training environment and elite session structure

Attendance expectations

Athletes in Ogging Elite are expected to regularly attend key squad sessions where possible. Athletes do not need to attend every session every week, but they should show consistent involvement in the squad environment.

  • Tuesday threshold session
  • Thursday track session
  • Sunday long run

As a guide, athletes should aim to attend at least 2 key Ogging sessions per week where possible.

Training & racing expectations

  • Train consistently
  • Race regularly throughout the year
  • Represent Ogging positively at events
  • Communicate with coaches about major races and goals
  • Support other Ogging athletes
  • Take recovery, injury prevention, and training discipline seriously
  • Actively work toward improvement rather than relying on past results

Culture standards

  • No ego
  • No negativity toward other athletes
  • No disrespect toward coaches, competitors, volunteers, or event staff
  • No poor sportsmanship
  • No reckless training behaviour that negatively affects the group
  • No behaviour that damages the Ogging brand

Ogging Elite should lift the standard of the whole club, not separate itself from it.

Review process

Eligibility may be reviewed every 6–12 months. Athletes may be added to Ogging Elite when they meet the performance and culture standards. Athletes may also be moved out of Ogging Elite if they are no longer training consistently, no longer engaging with the squad, or are not meeting the expected culture standards.
